I heard someone say once that working hard is not the same as working smart.  If you have ever cleaned out an addict or a garage, you have a pretty good understanding of the difference.   People often jump right in and start moving about, doing stuff without planning in advance.   It’s easier to take a few minutes and plan out your course of attack.  Organize your efforts by thinking in advance of having a keep pile, a throwaway (straight in the garbage bag it goes) and a pile for good will.  You can’t keep everything, someone could use it if you no longer have the need.

The next step is, to avoid the mess again, you’ll need some sought of an organizational system.  Do you need shelving, bins etc?  Invest in a label maker.  Once everything has a home it has somewhere to be neatly put away.

Consider the dust factor, attics and garages may not be visited every day nor cleaned frequently.  Get the mask and goggles if needed.  You certainly will need your cleaning solutions, especially when tackling the garage.

Lastly, get your music going.  Just like music motivates you to keep exercising it will do the same for cleaning.  And if you want to be a diva on the move, fill up your water bottle so you won’t have to stop for a drink.  Neat is sweet – clean on.
